ISO 9705 - Internal Room Corner Testing
(Part of Testing for Material Group Numbers)
Ignis Labs has two methods of determining Group Number of a material as outlined in AS 5637. The first is the predictive testing method which in accordance with AS/NZS 3837, ISO 5660 is carried out using cone calorimeter and the other is the Room Testing method which is done as per AS ISO 9705.
Materials not suitable for predictive testing using cone calorimeter are to be testing within a room with using burner located in a corner. This is the ISO 9705 test. The room is 2.4m wide x 2.4m high and 3.6m deep. Material is to be installed on three sides and the ceiling. A sand box burner is placed in the corner of the room and gas supplied to generate 100kW for test minutes and then increased to 300kW for a further ten minutes.
The group number is established when the room fire reaches an intensity of 1MW in one of the following stages:
- 00 - 02 min :: Group 4
- 02 - 10 min :: Group 3
- 11 - 20 min :: Group 2
- Does not reach 1MW :: Group 1
The samples installed in the room are to be drawn along with jointing and fixing systems for inclusion in the test report.
